Through A Different Lens Festival

Hello and welcome to our first festival hosted at Reading Biscuit Factory (big thanks to James and Matt the dynamic duo who head up the space).

I’m Jocelyn and I’m the founder and curator of Through A Different Lens and over the last 5 years I’ve developed and run film screening and networking events in a bid to increase diversity on screen and behind the lens. During covid I ran some on line workshops and discussions and post-covid launched in person events at the Reading Biscuit Factory.

I run Creative Connection bi-monthly as per when films are available so it is exciting to create a film festival this year show casing independent film plus we have a workshop, a chance to pitch your film idea and some Q+A sessions all in support of the Berkshire area becoming a hub for film and TV making outside of London.

Thank you our supporters the BFI Audience fund, Screen Berkshire, Cinema For All and REDA for their support and fellow curators, Stephen Graves and Mark at Exit 6/ Festival Formula for some ace film recommendations.

What have coming up...

Friday 27th September - Creative Connection – with audience vote

Our usual Creative Connection event will be hosted on Friday 27th September from 6pm but for our bumper addition, attendees will be able to vote on their favourite film! We’ll watch films, vote and have a short break before regrouping to hear the winner. Post screening, there will be the chance to network and chat in the foyer, helping you to find our next creative collaboration.

Saturday 28th September - Creating Ideas for Screen

Writer and filmmaker, Karla Williams will be guiding participants in taking an idea through to developing a script. In the session, you will get to learn about shaping your ideas, making a story work and helping you to develop the strapline for your idea to take it to the next stage.

Saturday 28th September - Shorts Showcase with Q&A

October

We’ll be holding a further screening in October to celebrate Black History month plus we’ll have more screenings happening in 2025.
